A UK family has kids in school. There is an alternate academic calendar for the United States family. There is also a routine for parents that is based on BD. The time of Hajj and Ramadan are to be observed, and peak weather is a factor in Saudi.
It seems like no one can go away for 10-14 days. But it isn't. There are 3-4 good windows per year. This guide helps identify them.
The four windows that work for most diaspora families
Window 1: October half-term (UK) + US fall break (mid-October to early November)
This is the ideal place for many UK + US families to be.
• UK schools: Half-term break in the UK is typically from October 21st through 25th.
• USA schools: Fall break in US schools is different: some have a week, some have a long weekend
• Weather in Saudi: Mild (25-32°C), suitable for older people.
• Saudi crowds: While some Saudi citizens are moderate, others are not.
• Cost: Below peak, GBP/USD reasonable
Great for families with school-aged children in the UK and US.
Window 2: Easter break / Spring break (early-mid April)
UK Easter holidays align well with US spring break in many years.
• UK schools: Schools in the UK are closed for 2 weeks in Easter.
• US schools: Spring Break in the United States: 1 week (mid-March to mid-April)
• Weather in Saudi: The weather is warm, but tolerable (25-35°C) in Saudi.
• Saudi crowds: The pre-Ramadan rush begins in Saudi, but not full.
• Cost: Moderate
Best for families who want to make one big trip, without having to worry about high prices.
Window 3: December half-term + Christmas (UK) + winter break (US)
Most expensive but very family-friendly.
• UK schools: Christmas holidays are 2 weeks in the UK schools.
• US schools: Winter Break is now 2 weeks long.
• Weather in Saudi: In Saudi weather will be cool and comfortable (15-25 °C).
• Saudi crowds: Peak — UK diaspora rush.
• Cost: The cost is the highest of the year.
Ideal for those families who can afford the highest rates and want the best weather.
Window 4: Summer holidays + post-Hajj (late August)
After the Hajj season ends.
• UK schools: The summer holiday in the UK is 6 weeks long.
• US schools: For US schools, summer break is 8-10 weeks.
• BD calendar: August is a generally flexible calendar for BD.
• Weather in Saudi: Very hot (40-45°C)
• Saudi crowds: Low, post-Hajj quiet
• Cost: Lowest of the year
Ideal for cost-conscious diaspora families whose elderly parents are in good health.
When NOT to plan reunion Umrah
Never: During Hajj season (May 20th to July 31st, approximately)
Saudi Arabia will NOT issue Umrah visas during the Hajj season. Pick another window.
Do not visit: Ramadan (March-April as per the year)
Expenses are double or triple. Crowds are extreme. Senior parents will have to struggle.
Avoid: BD monsoon (June-September) for elderly BD parents
In the monsoon season (June – September), travelling overland from Sylhet to Dhaka is difficult for elderly BD parents.
Avoid: New Year week (December 28 - January 5)
High price levels during the combined UK/US holiday rush + Saudi tax year end.
How a diaspora family chose their reunion month (composite)
The Begum family. UK family of 3 (London), US family of 2 (NYC), BD family of 2 (Sylhet). Wanted reunion in 2027.

Option A: April Easter (April 5-19, 2027)
• Kids from the UK: Easter break.
• US kids: Spring break

Option C: December Christmas (December 18-30, 2027)
• Universally available
• £10,500 for UK, $4,500 for US, BDT 5,80,000 for BD
• The average price of this month's product was 25-30% higher than April.
• Rejected due to cost.
Result: £15,500 total (for 7 persons) for April reunion. Easily accessible, timely and affordable.

Tips for syncing UK + US + BD calendars
1\. Start 9-12 months ahead. Next year's calendar is released in January/ February in the school. Lock dates then.
2\. Make a comparison of real school schedules. The breaks vary from district to district. Get specific.
3\. Spend time considering the health of your elderly parents. There's diabetes, heart trouble and mobility.
4\. Build a buffer. Include 2-3 days for visa/flight requirements.
5\. Do not sacrifice the whole group for one date. Don't compromise the trip, if one family unit can't make a window, find another window.
6\. Use a family calendar (Google or Outlook). Visual coordination prevents arguments.

How to lock the date once you pick a window
When your family has decided on a window:
Day 1: Confirmation via WhatsApp from the family. "We're doing April 5-19, 2027."
Week 1: Each adult takes off the dates from work. Confirm receipt.
Week 2: Make a deposit to Tour Solvers (or agency of choice). This will secure the booking.
Week 3: Passports of Bd parents are submitted for visa.
Week 4: Nusuk e-Visa applications submitted by the family in the UK/US.
Week 6: Confirm Hotel Block. Lock in flights.
Week 8: Official notification to schools/work.
When payments are made and deposits received, it is a real or actual date. People honor it.
Currency considerations by month
The exchange rates are subject to change from month to month. For reunion Umrah:
• Best months for GBP→SAR: February, August
• Best months for USD→SAR: Generally stable, slight dip in summer
• Best months for BDT→SAR: September-October typically
• Worst months: December (year-end demand), Ramadan
If you're paying in GBP for the whole family, October-February is generally better than April-July.
