Why Arafah Is the Heart of Hajj
The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said: 'Hajj is Arafah.' If a pilgrim misses standing at Arafat, their Hajj is invalid. It's the day when Allah descends to the lowest heaven and boasts about the pilgrims to the angels.
What Happens on Arafah
Pilgrims gather at the plain of Arafat from after sunrise until sunset on the 9th of Dhul Hijjah. The primary act is standing (wuquf) — simply being present while making dua and dhikr.
Maximizing Your Duas
Prepare a comprehensive dua list before this day. Pray for yourself, your family, the Ummah, and the world. The best dua is: La ilaha illallahu wahdahu la sharika lahu.
Practical Survival Tips
The heat can be extreme. Bring an umbrella, plenty of water, snacks, and a small prayer mat. Rest during the hottest hours but don't waste time sleeping — this day comes once in a lifetime.
For Non-Pilgrims
Even if you're not performing Hajj, fasting on the Day of Arafah is highly recommended. The Prophet ﷺ said it expiates sins of the past year and the coming year.
