Getting a Saudi SIM
Purchase a prepaid SIM card at Jeddah or Madinah airport upon arrival. STC, Mobily, and Zain all offer pilgrim data packages. STC generally has the best coverage near the Harams. Prices range from 50-100 SAR.
Data Packages
Most carriers offer special Hajj/Umrah data packages with generous data allowances. A typical package includes 10-20 GB of data for 30 days. This is more than enough for messaging, calls, and navigation.
WiFi Options
Most hotels offer free WiFi, though it can be slow during peak hours. The Harams have free public WiFi but it's unreliable with millions of users. Don't depend on WiFi — a local SIM is essential.
Calling Home
WhatsApp and Messenger video calls are the most economical way to communicate with family in Bangladesh. Avoid regular international calls — they're expensive even with local SIM.
Dual SIM Tips
If your phone supports dual SIM, keep your Bangladeshi SIM active for receiving bank OTPs and verification codes. Use the Saudi SIM for data and local calls.
